Link templates

This guide covers managing your organization's saved templates: creating, editing, deleting, and the quota. What a template is and why edits reach every attached link is explained in Templates; picking one while creating a link is covered in Create & share a link.

You need the Developer role or above to manage templates. Viewers and analysts see the list read-only, with a "You don't have permission to manage templates" tooltip on the disabled buttons. See Team & roles.

Open the tab

Go to Settings → Link templates. The tab is URL-addressable, so you can bookmark or share it: https://<your-portal>/settings?tab=templates. Old /templates bookmarks redirect here — /templates/create opens the create form and /templates/{id}/edit opens that template's edit form.

Read the list

Each row shows the template's name, description, and channel badge, plus chips derived from its data (deferred delivery, match window, UTM values). When at least one link uses the template, the row carries a Used by N links badge, and the Edit and Delete buttons sit at the end of the row.

The list shows only your organization's templates. OptoLink's built-in starters never appear here; they live in the template picker on the create page.

Above the list, a quota line such as Template slots: 1/3 used tracks usage against your plan.

Create a template

  1. Click New template. The form opens in place of the list; Cancel returns to it.

  2. Fill in the fields:

    FieldNotes
    NameRequired, up to 100 characters.
    DescriptionOptional, up to 500 characters.
ChannelRequired. One of social, email, sms, qr, referral, push, web, in-app, custom.
Deferred deliveryDefault on/off for links using this template.
    Match windowHours, 1–720. Default 24.
    Fallback URLWhere unmatched installs land.
UTM fieldsSource, medium, campaign, term, content.
Open Graph fieldsTitle, description, image URL for social previews.
Base params JSONParameters deep-merged under each link's own params.
  3. Click Save. A "Template created" toast confirms it, and the quota line ticks up.

Edit a template

Click Edit on the row — the same form opens, prefilled. Saving shows a "Template updated — links using it update live" toast. The toast is literal: every attached link picks up the change immediately, and per-link overrides always win over template values. Fix a UTM once here instead of editing each link.

Delete a template

Click Delete on the row. The confirm dialog reads Delete {name}? … frees its slot on your plan. No link uses it, so existing links are unaffected. This can't be undone.

While links use the template, Delete is disabled with the tooltip "Links are using this template — detach them before deleting it". Detaching is covered in Manage links. After deletion you get a "Template deleted" toast and the slot frees immediately.

Quota and upgrade

PlanTemplate slots

Built-in starters never consume a slot; only your organization's templates count. At the limit, New template disables and an upgrade prompt appears: "You've reached your templates limit. Upgrade your plan to create more templates." Its button opens the billing tab — see Billing & subscription and Plans, quotas & entitlements.

The same limit applies while creating a link: when your slots are full, "Save as template" offers Create link without template so the link itself isn't blocked.
