Portal overview
The portal shell is the same on every page: a sidebar for navigation, a header with your organization's identity, and your avatar menu. This page maps that shell, including what happens when something fails to load and where old links land now. Task-by-task guides live under Portal guides. The ops-admin console is a separate surface and is not covered here.
The sidebar
Six items, always in this order:
| Item | Guide |
|---|---|
| Home | Home and the setup checklist |
| Analytics | Analytics |
| Links | Create links · Manage links |
| Custom domains | Custom domains |
| API Keys | API keys |
| Settings | Organization profile · Team and roles · Templates · Billing |
There is no separate Templates item: template management lives in Settings. The old Getting Started item is gone too; its setup checklist moved to Home.
Which item is highlighted
The item for the page you're on is highlighted, with two rules:
- Home counts as active only when you're on it.
- Section items stay active on their subpages. Opening one link's detail page keeps Links highlighted.
Hovering an item shows its label as a tooltip.
Collapsing the sidebar
Collapse the sidebar to an icon rail with the trigger at the top of the sidebar or with Ctrl+B. Collapsed items show their icon, with the label on hover. The portal remembers your choice for 7 days.
On small screens
The sidebar becomes a drawer that slides in from the left. Picking an item closes it automatically.
The header
Left to right, the header holds:
- The sidebar trigger (the collapse control)
- Your organization's name. Long names truncate instead of wrapping.
- The member count, with the exact number on hover. It shows a dash while loading, and it's hidden when you're viewing another organization's portal.
- An Upgrade pill, when your plan can be upgraded (see below)
- The theme toggle (sun/moon)
- Your avatar, which opens the user menu
The Upgrade pill
The pill appears once your subscription has loaded and your organization isn't on a paid plan. Clicking it opens the plan picker. Three things hide it:
- A payment that's past due. The portal points you at the failed payment instead (see Home's needs-attention item).
- An error while loading your subscription. A failed check counts as "unknown", not "can upgrade".
- Narrow screens, under 640px wide. On mobile, use Settings → Billing → Change plan.
Your user menu
The avatar shows your initial. The menu shows:
- Your name and email
- Your organization role (Owner, Admin, Developer, Analyst, or Viewer)
- Your plan. The pill names your current tier ("Starter Subscription" if you have no subscription record) and opens the plan picker.
- Sign out, which returns you to the sign-in page and remembers the page you were on, so signing back in lands you where you left.
Light and dark theme
Dark is the default everywhere, including the sign-in and "Page not found" screens. The header toggle switches between light and dark.
Keyboard and screen readers
The first Tab press on any portal page offers Skip to main content. After every navigation, focus moves to the page content, so screen readers announce the new page instead of staying on the sidebar.
Page not found
A mistyped URL shows a public "Page not found" page that echoes the path you entered, with a Back to dashboard button. It works signed out; no login needed to see it.
Old links still work
| Old URL | Now lands on |
|---|---|
/getting-started | Home |
/templates and its subpages | Settings, on the Link templates tab |
/analytics/templates | Analytics, breakdowns grouped by template (your filters carry over) |
Roles and the sidebar
Every role sees the same six sidebar items. Viewer and Analyst get the same map as Owner. What differs is what pages let you do: reading is open to every role, while changes such as creating links, editing settings, or billing actions check your role on the page. The ladder is Viewer → Analyst → Developer → Admin → Owner. See Team and roles for what each role can change.
If you open an /admin… URL without an admin account, the portal sends you back to Home. There's no error page; the admin console itself isn't covered in these docs.
For how sign-in, session expiry, and the redirect back to your original page work, see Create your account.
When the shell can't load something
- The member count fails silently: the number just doesn't render.
- The Upgrade pill disappears (see above).
- The sign-in guard is the one failure with a visible error. If the portal can't read your session or onboarding state, you get an error banner with a Retry button instead of being redirected.
- While the portal checks your session or loads a page, you see the branded splash screen.
