Quickstart: your first link
One straight path: account, organization setup, a link you can share, and the click that proves it works. Each step links to the page that owns the detail. This path stays in the portal; connecting your app with an SDK comes after, in Quickstart: connect your app with an SDK.
1. Create your account
Open the portal and choose Sign up. Register with email + password or Google, then enter the verification code from your inbox. After sign-in, the setup wizard opens on its own. Details: Create your account.
2. Set up your organization
The wizard has three steps, and you can't skip past it:
- Name your organisation — one field. The name can't be changed later.
- Configure your app — register iOS or Android (or both). Each platform needs its bundle ID (iOS) or package name (Android) and store URL. At least one platform must be saved before you can continue.
- Choose your plan — pick Starter (free, no card). It finishes setup immediately; paid plans go through checkout.
You land on the dashboard. Details: Set up your organization.
3. Create a link
- Open Links and click Create link. A template picker opens; choose Custom / Start from scratch.
- In Destination & identity, type the in-app path the link should open, for example
/premium/upgrade. - Type a short code, or leave it blank and OptoLink generates one. The availability hint tells you while you type.
- Click Create link.
You land on the success page. Your short URL has the shape https://{domain}/{orgKey}/{shortCode}. Details: Create & share a link.
4. Share it
From the success page:
- Copy puts the short URL on your clipboard.
- Download QR gives you the code as SVG or PNG to embed or print.
The same copy and QR actions stay available on the link's detail page. Details: Manage links.
5. Open the link and watch the click land
Open the short URL yourself:
- Phone with your app installed → the app opens on the link's path once your app integrates the SDK.
- Phone without the app → your registered store page, then the web fallback.
- Desktop browser → the web fallback.
Then open Analytics in the portal. The click appears on the Overview tab (default window: 30 days, measured in UTC). The setup checklist on Home ticks off "Create your first link" at the same time. Details: Analytics.
Routing into the app needs the SDK integration and, for verified app links, your platform's association setup. Until then the link still works: phones without the app get the store and fallback, and every click is recorded either way. See Routing & fallbacks.
