Plans, quotas & entitlements
This page explains the limits a plan puts on your organization and what happens when you reach them. Checkout, invoices, and plan changes are covered in Billing & subscription.
Two different mechanisms gate what your organization can do:
- Quotas count things your organization creates or consumes. Links, monthly clicks, custom domains, team members, and org-saved templates are quotas: every plan includes an amount, and working past it fails or flags until you upgrade.
- Feature gates are on/off switches. API access is the main one: your plan either includes it or it doesn't, with no amount to run out of. When a feature is off, the portal hides or blocks it rather than counting usage. See API keys.
Quota limits per plan
| Plan | Links | Org templates |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | 10 | 3 |
| Solo | 50 | 5 |
| Growth | 200 | 10 |
| Scale | 1,000 | 50 |
| Enterprise | No cap | No cap |
Templates that OptoLink ships as built-in starters never count against your template quota; only templates your organization saves do.
Enterprise has no hard caps. Instead, usage beyond the plan's included amounts bills as overage (see Billing & subscription).
What happens at the limit
When a quota is exhausted, creation fails and the API returns HTTP 402 with the quota that was hit:
{
"statusCode": 402,
"error": "Payment Required",
"message": "You've reached your links limit.",
"code": "QUOTA_EXCEEDED",
"quota": "links"
}
In the portal this appears as an inline upgrade prompt pointing at the plans page. Nothing you already created is affected: existing links keep resolving; only new creation is blocked.
A save-as-template failure doesn't lose your work: if your org template quota is full while creating a link, the portal offers to create the link without saving the template.
Watching usage as it climbs
The portal doesn't wait for a failed action to tell you a quota is running out. Every quota reports three numbers: how much you've used, the plan's limit, and whether the limit is exceeded. Two thresholds matter:
- 80% of a limit — the portal flags the quota as approaching. The Home usage strip's bar turns warning-colored and reads "Approaching your monthly click limit.", and an "Approaching plan limits" alert appears.
- 100% — the quota reads "Monthly click limit reached." on the strip, and an "At or over plan limits" alert appears alongside the failed creations above.
You can read current usage in two places:
- The usage strip on Home shows your plan label, clicks this cycle as used/limit (or "Unlimited" when no limit applies), a progress bar, and the reset date from your billing period ("Resets Oct 1"). The whole strip links to the plans page.
- The plans page (also the destination of the Upgrade alerts) shows the same numbers per plan.

Plan changes
You upgrade or downgrade yourself through the plans page (see Billing & subscription). The OptoLink team can also move an organization to Enterprise manually; that's an admin-side arrangement, not a self-serve checkout.
